What is a PDO?
PDO = Protected Designation of Origin. This European label guarantees that a product is made in a specific region , with local ingredients and traditional know-how.
👉 This is a guarantee of authenticity. Examples: Comté AOP, Roquefort AOP, Piment d'Espelette AOP.
And a PGI?
PGI = Protected Geographical Indication. Less strict than the PDO, it guarantees that at least one important stage of production is linked to a region.
Example: Dijon PGI mustard.
