A story about pickles...
After ten years in finance in Germany , I felt the need to bring some flavor back into my life . As a Frenchman living in Germany, what did I miss most? Real good cheese, sardines, Puy lentils… and of course, those wonderfully crunchy gherkins . In short, all those little pleasures that are hard to find here.
This is how Le Cornichon was born: an online grocery store to share my passion for good French products, those that we, French expats, bring back in our suitcases or keep preciously in the fridge like a treasure.
What you will find here
Le Cornichon is a selection of authentic, artisanal and delicious products, sourced directly from small French producers.
For French people at heart (or by passport) who live in Germany and are looking for the Savoy tomme cheese that smells of the mountains or the artisanal terrine that never lasts more than a day.
But also for curious or gourmet Germans, lovers of French know-how .
A word from the founder
My name is Hugo. French by origin, Savoyard at heart, and Bavarian by adoption for over ten years. For a long time, I worked in corporate finance, until the day life pushed me to ask myself a simple question:
What if I finally did what I truly love?
And what I really love is simple and sincere gastronomy.
The 24-month aged Comté cheese, the pistachio pâté en croûte, the semi-salted butter, and of course… the gherkin, that little crunchy vinegary thing that changes everything.
For years, every time I returned to Savoy, my French friends exiled in Munich would place orders with me:
“Can you bring me back a piece of Beaufort cheese? A Reblochon? Some Espelette pepper if you can find it?”
And one day, I said to myself: “Why not make it my profession?”
That's how Le Cornichon was born: a heartfelt, gourmet project, dedicated to good products, those who make them and those who appreciate them.
Today, I still live in Bavaria, a region I love.
I often cook there for my friends, to introduce them to truly French recipes, using products that I am proud to offer here.
This project is a piece of France within reach of a click for those who are nostalgic for it… or curious.
